Zhuoyan manufactures PFA Coated Chemical Steam Separation Column for purification and fractionation of high-purity corrosive steam-phase mixtures. This tower-type separation equipment adopts melt-sprayed dense PFA coating on all steam-contact inner surfaces, delivering low-ion-release performance for harsh corrosive vapor. Configurable internals including structured/random packing and liquid redistributors. Each column completes coating thickness detection, spark scanning and hydraulic tightness test. We provide custom tower dimension, free steam-phase process evaluation and 5-year coating warranty for pharmaceutical fine-chemical, semiconductor and special solvent separation projects.
PFA Coated Chemical Steam Separation Column is vapor-phase fractionation tower applying melt-spray PFA anti-corrosion coating, functionally different from sheet-laminated PTFE-lined distillation towers. Instead of bonding thick fluoropolymer sheet, dense PFA coating is thermally fused onto carbon-steel substrate. It excels for high-purity steam-medium working scenarios where strict control on metal-ion leaching is required. Hot corrosive mixed steam completes vapor-liquid counter-current mass-transfer inside tower internals. The continuous dense PFA barrier isolates hot acid, halogen-containing and oxidizing steam from metal shell, avoiding metal-ion contamination of distillate. Widely deployed for overseas high-purity chemical purification, pharmaceutical intermediate rectification and semiconductor reagent recycling projects.
Working Principle
1. Material anti-corrosion principle
-Outer substrate: Q345R pressure-vessel carbon-steel shell bears mechanical load, operating pressure and external wind load. -Inner protective barrier: PFA(Perfluoroalkoxy)fluoropolymer powder is melt-sprayed and thermally cured onto tower inner wall, manhole and nozzle surfaces to form dense continuous thin-film coating. Thanks to stable carbon-fluorine molecular bonds, cured PFA coating presents outstanding chemical inertia, blocks penetration of hot corrosive steam and prevents base-metal ion dissolution into distillate, achieving both anti-corrosion and high-purity protection.
2. Matching steam-separation process logic
Hot mixed corrosive steam enters tower bottom and rises upward; condensed reflux liquid flows downward across tower packing/distributor components. Repeated vaporization-condensation mass-transfer realizes multi-component fractionation. All rising hot steam contacts only PFA-coated surfaces. This column mainly serves steam-phase dominated separation workflows: vacuum rectification of heat-sensitive corrosive feedstock, high-purity reagent purification, halogen-containing solvent steam fractionation. It can connect with condensers and PFA-coated receiving vessels to build a full high-purity steam-separation closed loop.
Core Product Advantages
1. Ultra-Low Metal-Ion Leaching Performance Thermally fused dense PFA coating reduces ion precipitation risk, well-suited for high-purity distillate production, meets partial GMP and semiconductor-grade reagent purification requirements.
2. Good Adaptability For Complex Tower-Internal Geometry Melt-spray coating process covers intricate shapes such as nozzle corners, redistributor supports and small-diameter tower-sections which bring installation obstacles for sheet-based PTFE lining.
3. Uniform Thin Continuous Barrier Layer No sheet-joint welding seams which are typical for PTFE sheet lining; lowers hidden risk of steam penetration along welding gaps under hot vapor cyclic working-conditions.
4. Flexible Vacuum Steam-Phase Operation Suitable for vacuum distillation of heat-labile corrosive steam; properly cured PFA coating maintains adhesion under stable negative-pressure steam environment.
5. Modular Tower-Section Combination Design Segment-assembled tower-sections for convenient long-distance transportation and field assembly; internals can be swapped to adjust separation precision.
6. Inter-System Compatibility Available with HG20536 anti-corrosion flanges, can dock with PFA-coated or PTFE-lined pipe-valve and receiving equipment for complete separation-loop construction.

Main Application Fields
Target high-purity corrosive-steam fractionation scenarios, export records covering Southeast-Asia and Middle-East high-end chemical manufacturing plants:
1. Fine-chemical high-purity solvent steam rectification and purification
2. Pharmaceutical intermediate vacuum steam separation for low-metal-impurity requirements
1. Medium limitation: PFA coating resists most acid, alkali and organic-steam; avoid long-term exposure to molten alkali-metal and chlorine trifluoride which will degrade fluoropolymer material. Not recommended for heavy solid-particle-laden steam; solid grit will abrade coating surface.
2. Temperature-change constraint: Prevent drastic thermal shock; heating / cooling rate controlled ≤10 ℃ per hour. Sharp hot-cold alternation may induce coating micro-cracks and delamination.
3. Vacuum-operation limit: Do not exceed -0.07 MPa maximum vacuum rating. Excessive negative-pressure increases risk of coating peeling from steel substrate.
4. Assembly protection: During internals installation, strictly prevent sharp metal components scratching or impacting PFA-coated inner surfaces.
5. Forbidden field modification: No on-site welding, grinding or drilling on tower shell. High-temperature operation will destroy the adhesion of PFA coating.
6. Steam-feed requirement: Feed-steam should reduce solid-particle carry-over as much as possible; front-end filter device is suggested to cut abrasive particle impact on coating.
Routine Maintenance Guide
1. Periodic coating inspection: Every 6-9 months perform spark leak-detection and coating-thickness measurement. Focus on nozzle corners and tower-section flange transition zones vulnerable to steam scouring.
2. Internal cleaning: Cool the tower completely and release pressure before opening manhole. Only adopt soft non-metallic tools and compatible solvent circulation flushing; steel-wire-brush and hard scraper are strictly forbidden to avoid coating scratch damage.
3. Flange-sealing inspection: Check PFA composite gaskets quarterly; replace aged / deformed gaskets timely to stop steam leakage at joint-positions.
4. Tower-internals overhaul: Take-out packing and redistributor for cleaning during annual shutdown; remove coking steam-phase deposits to guarantee mass-transfer efficiency.
5. Outer-shell maintenance: For outdoor-mounted column, inspect exterior anti-rust paint every two years; repair peeling paint to protect carbon-steel substrate from atmospheric corrosion.
6. Spare-part management: Store matching PFA composite gaskets; ordinary metal gaskets shall not replace anti-corrosion sealing accessories. Once local coating blistering or peeling appears, contact manufacturer for professional repair; do not conduct self-adhesive patch repairing on-site.
FAQ
Q1: What is the core difference between PFA Coated Chemical Steam Separation Column and PTFE-lined distillation column?
A: This product adopts melt-spray thermal-cured PFA thin coating without sheet welding seams, superior for low-ion-leaching high-purity steam-phase working-conditions. PTFE-lined tower uses thick fluoropolymer sheet lamination and performs better under severe liquid-phase immersion erosion.
Q2: Can PFA coated tower run under long-term high-vacuum steam-distillation?
A: Stable operation under-0.07 MPa vacuum; do not surpass design vacuum value, over-vacuum may trigger coating-delamination risk.
Q3: Is this coated tower suitable for steam containing solid abrasive particles?
A: Not recommended. Hard solid particles carried-over by steam will abrade PFA coating; install front-end particle-removal filtering device if particles cannot be completely eliminated.
Q4: Can tower internals be replaced on-site for adjusting separation-precision?
A: Modular tower-section design allows internals replacement during shutdown; be careful to avoid scratching inner PFA coating during disassembly-assembly work.
Q5: What inspection items will each PFA coated steam separation column complete before shipment?
A: Each tower goes through coating-thickness uniformity test, full-wall spark scanning and hydraulic pressure holding tightness double-verification.
